Chemical Biology, Bioinorganic and Medicinal Chemistry
The research activities in our laboratory span organic and inorganic synthesis, enzyme-mimetic chemistry, and multidisciplinary approaches to problems in biomedical research. Our recent efforts are focused on understanding the antioxidant and redox-modulating activities of synthetic compounds in mammalian cells, investigating thyroid hormone metabolism and thyroid-related disorders, and developing molecular probes for the detection and quantification of reactive oxygen species and biomarkers of oxidative stress.
We have established a well-equipped synthetic chemistry laboratory for organic and inorganic synthesis, molecular characterization, and in vitro activity studies using UV–Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and LC–MS-based assays. In parallel, we have developed a chemical and synthetic biology laboratory with capabilities in protein expression and purification, biochemical assays, and mammalian cell-based studies. These complementary facilities have enabled us to build a genuinely multidisciplinary research group that integrates synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Through close collaborations both within the laboratory and with researchers across disciplines, we aim to address challenging contemporary problems at the chemistry–biology interface and translate fundamental molecular insights into applications relevant to human health.
